Senior R&D Technician

Stellartech is in search of a Senior R&D Technician for our Research and Development Team to assist Project Engineers in the development and manufacturing of disposable medical devices and their associated assembly processes. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist Project Engineers in the design and development of medical products
  • Assemble components and subassemblies to allow evaluation of device characteristics and performance
  • Set up and operate test fixtures and data collection systems to allow evaluation of product performance
  • Perform process validation and verification activities for these devices, and document the results in a lab notebook
  • Provide and prepare verification information in a form suitable for inclusion in the product’s Design History File (DHF)
  • Assist with the supervision of disposables manufacturing operators to perform new assembly processes; perform routine assembly training of disposables manufacturing operators
  • Coordinate product assembly requirements with Materials and Manufacturing groups to ensure adequate materials, assembly space, tooling, fixtures and personnel resources
  • Coordinate assembly activities with Quality to ensure proper documentation and surveillance; coordinate and perform specified cleaning and maintenance operations in the Clean Environmental Area (CEA)
  • Assemble devices, components and subassemblies for product testing and/or manufacturing; package and label disposable medical devices in Tyvek pouches and trays
  • Provide device/component assembly operations in a documented form appropriate for the DMR; provide suggestions for new concepts and process improvements, and help write assembly procedures

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or Technical Degree/Certificate with 5 years previous experience in an R&D Lab and/or medical device manufacturing company, or a minimum of 10 years related experience is required
  • Excellent manual dexterity and meticulous assembly skills - must be able to assemble products under microscopic visualization
  • Good reading, writing and verbal communication skills, and excellent documentation habits – must be detail-oriented
  • Ability to use routine machine shop equipment, such as a lathe, mill, drill press, grinder, Dremel Tool, press, and miscellaneous hand tools
  • Familiar with the equipment used in a laboratory environment
  • Ability to use routine test and measurement equipment, such as a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, temperature measurement meter and probe, tensile testing equipment, etc.
  • Ability to draft technical documents (e.g., manufacturing procedures, test protocols, reports documenting test results, etc.)
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting and identify problems and relevant issues in a complex design, and propose solutions
  • Ability to read and understand procedures, drawings and schematics, and perform the assembly instructions
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and especially Excel
  • SolidWorks experience is a plus
